Hey guys. So, I know it has been a long time since anyone has posted.. but man I didn't think it had been this long. I have also been doing bad at journaling so don't take it personally that I haven't been keeping you up to date.
We have had a FULL week, and another full week to continue. Yesterday marked the 1/3 of the way through our trip and MAN it has flown. This week we covered a huge range of activities.
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday we started our day with language lessons with our wonderful teacher Christine. It started getting overwhelming, we had greetings down but then we added foods, drinks, colors, numbers, directions, and then we started to learn verbs and their conjugations. All of the most commonly used verbs are irregular (of course) and we are starting to learn the regular verbs, or the ones that follow some sort of rule.
Monday afternoon we went out to the ATN (Africa Transformation Network) property and David Reeves taught us about the agriculture ministry. The ministry is to teach people to "Farm God's Way," using the resources He has given us and how to make the crops grow effectively. It was all way more interesting than I can explain and I loved learning about how by meeting people's basic needs we can teach them so much about the love of Christ; how He provides for us always, and how He has already given us the resources we really need.
Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday we spent more time at the Peace House doing things like teaching English and hanging out with some of the boys and girls that are part of the ministry there. Saturday they have a day program for street boys that do not live at the house (an average of forty boys involved each Saturday). Becca and I played games with the boys. They loved playing the "huh" game and ninja and we also taught them the tapping game and "wink." (So pretty much every game that originated at a church camp they love to play.) Brook and Lauren did crafts with the boys and taught them the paper weaving craft.
Saturday afternoon we spent time with the Extra Mile Ministry. We went to the girls house that are part of that ministry and had a bible study. The whole bible study they spoke in Kinyarwanda, but later when we broke off into smaller groups we realized they had all been holding out on us the past couple weeks and that most of them can speak very basic English.
We also got to spend some great time in fellowship with several families. Brook and Lauren went to the Reeves house on Tuesday night and Becca and I went to the Reeves house Saturday night for dinner. All four interns were together Wednesday night with the Shelby's and Friday night at the Amos' for dinner with some of the Rwandan members of the ATN staff.
Like I said, it was a crazy busy week. Becca will tell y'all about what we did Wednesday in a separate post because that was a FULL day with lots going on. Friday we had time set aside to souvenir shop at one of the markets and Saturday between activities we had some good down time to rest. We have been involved in some great bible studies and discussions and so many thought provoking things or ideas have been presented to us. I am loving my time here and can't believe it is flying by so quickly.
Speaking of flying by... WEEEEEEEE.
Today I ask that you say a prayer for us, that we can continue to learn and grow and also prayers of safe travels because we will be going to another village this week (via Bus...yikes).
xoxox,
Darian
